ALLEN ICET – THE PRO-LIFE CANDIDATE FOR MISSOURI STATE AUDITOR

State Auditor candidate Allen Icet is proud to be the only Auditor candidate on the August 3rd primary ballot to receive the backing of both of Missouri’s statewide pro-life organizations.

Having previously won the support of Missouri Right to Life, Icet has now been endorsed by Missourians United for Life. MUL opposes abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, and other attacks on life and is particularly opposed to state tax dollars being awarded to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. Icet has vowed to sound the alarm regarding any plans to spend state dollars for entities and efforts demonstrating a lack of regard for the sanctity of human life.

In announcing its endorsement, Missourians United for Life notes Icet not only opposes abortion and other life-ending attacks, but has served with distinction in a public capacity in support of life issues.

“Like Missouri Right to Life, Missourians United for Life has studied my record of protecting the unborn and preventing taxpayer funding of abortions,” said Icet. “It is clear that my commitment to life will guide my principles as I assume the role of the taxpayers’ watchdog.”

Auditor Candidate Vows to Fight Illegal Immigration, Questions Opponent’s Commitment to Border Security

WILDWOOD, MO: Pointing to a recent investigation by Illinois Auditor General William Holden that uncovered over $50 Million dollars in Illinois state welfare payments to illegal aliens, Missouri Auditor Candidate Allen Icet pledged to make illegal immigration a focus of the state Auditor’s office if elected.

“Missourians deserve to know whether or not their tax dollars are going to illegal aliens or state contractors that hire illegal workers,” said Icet. “As Auditor, my office will undertake a comprehensive examination of state contracts to ensure that our tax dollars are not being sent to contractors that employ an illegal work-force, and I will conduct a top-down review of our Medicaid system to make sure that illegal immigrants are not receiving state welfare benefits.”

Icet argued that not enough is currently being done by state officials to combat illegal immigration in Missouri.

“In 2008, more than two years before Arizona, I was part of the Missouri legislature that passed one of the nation’s toughest anti-illegal immigration laws, HB 1549,” Icet said. “We made it clear that state contractors who hired illegal aliens would have their contracts terminated and their business licenses suspended. Unfortunately, since that time, Susan Montee has shown no interest in utilizing her authority to prevent state tax dollars from going to illegals or the companies that hire them.”

The Icet campaign has also criticized its primary opponent, Tom Schweich, on his opposition to strong border security.

“Mr. Schweich has voiced opposition to using our nation’s military to ensure border security,” Steve Walsh, spokesman for Icet’s Auditor campaign, explained. “In an op-ed he penned for The Washington Post on December 21, 2008, Schweich argued against a plan to deploy 20,000 U.S. troops to help secure borders, in addition to detailing a distrust of the military that borders on paranoia; declaring ‘the generals are not only dominating our government activities abroad, at our borders and in Washington, but they also seem to intend to spread out across the heartland of America.’”

“Mr. Schweich seems confused on this issue,” concluded Walsh. “It’s almost as if he thinks we have more to fear from our own soldiers than from criminals that break into our country.”

The Icet campaign also pointed to Tom Schweich’s professional lobbyist activists as further evidence of his duplicity on this issue.

“Considering that Tom Schweich is still listed as part of the government affairs division of Bryan Cave, and that Tom has also lobbied government agencies on behalf of major corporations, we wonder why Tom Schweich never registered as a federal lobbyist himself,” continued Walsh.

On Bryan Cave’s website, the Public Policy and Government Affairs Division, of which Tom Schweich is a member is described as offering “proactive advice and consulting in the complex matters of regulatory affairs, public policy and legislation. The lawyers and non-lawyer consulting professionals on our team represent clients before a variety of federal regulatory agencies, the United States Congress, state legislatures, governors, attorneys general and county and municipal governments.” This information is available athttp://www.bryancave.com/ourpeople/list.aspx?Services=714 andhttp://www.bryancave.com/services/ServiceDetail.aspx?service=714.

In 1996 Tom Schweich lobbied the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals on behalf of McDonnell-Douglas. And in 2004, Tom Schweich lobbied the Government Accounting Office on behalf of Cerner.

“If Tom wants to have any credibility on this issue, he needs to come clean and disclose all of the clients he has lobbied for, or represented with, the federal government,” concluded Walsh.

Tom Schweich’s Auditor campaign has been beset by accusations of hypocrisy and inaccuracy. Schweich loudly complained about the Missouri Republican Party’s support for Congressman Roy Blunt in the US Senate Primary, then demanded the same establishment clear the field for him in the Auditor primary. Recently, Tom Schweich’s campaign was forced to remove its music video due to a copyright claim from the Dandy Warhols, despite Schweich’s original insistence that the video was his original composition and creation.

Are Tom Schweich’s Song Writing Chops as Bogus as Conservative Credentials?

On March 29, 2010, a video, “Gimme Back my Freedom”, was posted on YouTube. The video showcased Tom Schweich and a small group of young adults attempting to woo conservatives with targeted lyrics. At the end of the video credit for the lyrics and music was given to Tom Schweich and he personally claimed the copyright in the video.

On April 7, 2010, Fired Up! found that the music was significantly like the song “Bohemian Like You”, which was written by Courtney Taylor-Taylor, the lead singer of Dandy Warhols. Schweich later responded to the accusations through the Saint Louis Beacon, denying them and saying, “The words and music are my own.”

Then Fired Up! received documentation from the Dandy Warhols stating that a lawyer for Tom Schweich had contacted them to seek permission for the use of the music of their “Bohemian Like You” song, which they refused.

The Saint Louis Beacon posted Tom Schweich’s entire statement of the events relating to the music video where Schweich says he, “rewrote the song,” and “it is now an original.” While maintaining his own innocence, Schweich shifts blame to the Dandy Warhols by stating, “many reviews of the Dandy Warhols’ ‘Bohemian Like You’ say their song was lifted directly from the Rolling Stones and others.”

Yet, after all these denials, Tom Schweich’s video was finally pulled off of YouTube on April 27, 2010 due to a copyright claim filed by King, Holmes, Paternos. King, Holmes, Paternos is a law firm “with particular emphasis in entertainment law” according to their website. They are known for representing Metallica in their suit of copyright infringement against Napster.

This is hardly the first instance of doublespeak from the Schweich campaign. While running for the U.S. Senate Schweich complained about back-room deals made by the Missouri GOP when he wrote in an editorial for the Post-Dispatch, “We should shed some light on the back-room politics of the sedentary, uncreative Republican leadership in [Missouri],” shortly before accepting the Party’s support after orchestrating his own back-room deal for auditor.

Add this to the fact that Tom Schweich donated to Democrat and Obama confidant Claire McCaskill’s campaign in 2002, praised President Obama’s “all-star cabinet” in a column for the New York Times, parroted Michael Moore when he claimed in a Washington Post op-ed that our country was dangerously close to being overtaken by a quiet military coup, and criticized military trials of foreign terrorists at Guatanamo Bay, Cuba, and Republican voters are left to question whether Schweich’s conservative principles are as genuine as his song-writing prowess.

Leading conservative groups across Missouri; including the Missouri Republican Assembly, Eagle Forum, and Concerned Women for America; have enthusiastically endorsed Allen Icet’s bid for Auditor since they recognize he is the lone conservative alternative in the race.

Campaign manger Ross Branson explains, “Yes Tom has received some high profile support from party leaders, but when groups that reflect the conservative grassroots of Missouri have their say, they overwhelmingly desire a man of principle and integrity to be their next Auditor. They choose Allen Icet.”

Missouri State Auditor candidate, Allen Icet, announces Springfield rally featuring nationally known conservative and tea party rally speaker, Joe the Plumber.

Allen Icet, candidate for Missouri State Auditor, is announcing today that he will be holding a rally at the Ramada Oasis Inn at 2546 North Glenstone Avenue, Springfield, MO from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on May 20, 2010. Nationally recognized conservative Joe the Plumber has been rallying for conservative causes since his televised questioning of President Barack Obama’s tax plan. On May 20th he joins others in support of Icet’s Auditor campaign.

“The Auditor’s office is the last line of defense when it comes to the fight against government waste and fraud, and it takes someone with experience handling a budget like Allen to watch out for the taxpayers,” comments Joe on the election for Auditor. He continues, “And no matter what office it is, I’m sure the people of Missouri want their watchdog to be principled, and to share the same values they do. That is why Allen Icet is the man for the job and why I’m proud to support him in his campaign.”

“I met Joe the Plumber at last year’s Fair Tax rally in Columbia, MO. He’s a down to earth, principled, no nonsense type of guy, “explains Representative Shane Schoeller. Representative Schoeller has endorsed Icet along with all the Republican Representatives of Greene County. “It’s the values I saw Allen exhibit that led me to endorse him and I look forward to supporting Allen in his campaign and seeing him and Joe the Plumber at the Springfield Rally. Allen has done so much for Missouri as he’s watched over our budget the past five years and I know he’ll continue to do so when he becomes our next Auditor.”

Dr. William Scott Magill, president of the Missouri Republican Assembly added, “Representative Icet is a statesman who at his core recognizes the importance of guarding the misuse of the people’s resources. He understands that government serves the people and not vice-versa, will serve unencumbered by special interest to rout out waste and fraud, and protect the taxpayers’ as their guardian.”

The rally will take place at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Ramada Oasis Inn in Springfield. Tickets for the event will be $10.00, children are free. Interested persons may contact Ross Branson with the Icet for Auditor campaign at (573) 645-0553 or by visiting www.icetforauditor.com/joetheplumber.

Allen Icet is serving in the Missouri House for his eighth year representing the 84th district and as Budget Chairman for his fifth. Allen has gained endorsements from 82 of his fellow colleagues in the House of Representatives and recently won a straw poll and the MRA endorsement at the Missouri Lincoln Days. He is also supported in his campaign by his wife Carol, three daughters, and his son.

Icet, the only conservative in the Republican primary for Missouri auditor, dominated a straw-poll of Republican stalwarts conducted at statewide Lincoln Days by Survey Missouri, LLC, an independent pollster. Icet took nearly 90 percent of the votes in the straw poll, beating primary opponent Tom Schweich 87.31 percent to 12.69 percent.

That’s why over 200 conservative activist held a rally in support of Allen’s campaign this past Saturday afternoon. They came from all corners of our great state to support Allen’s values and his campaign. Come August, I think we’ll find that Missourians will proudly join in Allen Icet’s effort to bring fiscal sanity and common sense conservative values to the office of the Missouri Auditor.”

PRESS RELEASE

February 4th, 2010

St. Louis, MO The St. Louis Police Association endorsed Rep. Allen Icet’s campaign for Missouri State Auditor Tuesday.

President Thomas Walsh said the group endorsed Icet for his commitment to public safety and to protecting Missouri taxpayers. “Our organization voted at their last meeting to endorse you because we appreciate the support you have given us over the years. Your support has ensured the rights of our police officers,” said Walsh. “The St. Louis Police Officers’ Association specifically and Law Enforcement in general thank you for the commitment you have bestowed upon the police community in the state legislature.”

Icet thanked the members of the Police Officers’ Association for their work. “I’m thrilled to receive this endorsement from yet another group of civic-minded Missourians,” said Icet. “Police officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our streets safe.”

“As state auditor,” Icet continued, “I won’t face the same danger that these officers brave every day. But I will serve with the same sense of public purpose to protect Missouri taxpayers from waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Icet is the only candidate in the race for Auditor with actual experience protecting Missouri taxpayers. He has served on the Missouri House Budget Committee for seven years, including five as budget chairman. Thanks to Icet, Missouri’s budget is in much better shape than the budgets of other states at the present time. Without Allen’s leadership on the House Budget Committee, Missouri taxpayers would likely be facing an insurmountable budget deficit.

PRESS RELEASE

January 13th, 2010

Jefferson City, MO – Allen Icet pledged today that his first action as State Auditor would be to conduct a vigorous audit of federal stimulus funds received by the state of Missouri.

“We owe it to Missouri taxpayers to ensure that our tax dollars are being used as intended,” said Icet. “As Missouri Auditor, I’ll keep careful watch over all of the stimulus funds coming into our state for fraud and effectiveness. If there’s fraud, we’ll put an end to it. Where there’s ineffectiveness, we’ll expose it and I will work to try and re-direct funds to better serve the tax payers of Missouri.”

Icet said his audit plan was motivated by news reports that federal stimulus funds had not “saved or created” nearly as many jobs as claimed by the Obama Administration.

“The Obama Administration might think funny math is good enough for stimulus funds, but I don’t.” Icet said. “Missouri taxpayers deserve to know whether this flood of new spending is working as President Obama claimed it would.”

In December, the Obama Administration quietly changed the way it counts jobs “saved or created” by the stimulus. Critics have since charged that the changes make jobs “saved or created” numbers even more misleading.

Icet is the only candidate in the Auditor’s race with experience in Missouri government and an actual record of defending Missouri taxpayers. In eight years on the House Budget Committee, he has protected Missouri taxpayers by cutting taxes and eliminating millions of dollars in waste in state programs.

For more information regarding the Obama Administration’s policy on counting jobs “saved and created,” see http://www.propublica.org/ion/stimulus/item/white-house-changes-stimulus-jobs-count-111.
